Viewing Assessments and Results

The Assessment View

Instructors can view assessment results within BlueQuill. When a student submits an assessment, the instructor will see a default view, based on the settings of the assessment when it was created. If the assessment was designed to show the student results immediately, the instructor will see a blue overlay on the object, notifying them that there are new assessment results to view.

Once the object is opened, the instructor will see the Standard View as default. This view displays the activities as the students viewed them.

To view the analytics for the assessment, click Toggle Analytics.

This view allows the instructor to see the percentages of responses that students chose in the assessment.

The instructor may also view individual student responses by clicking Student Attempts View. This view allows the instructor to scroll through the students who completed the assessment and view their responses.

There are three different ways that the assessment design can affect the instructor’s ability to view results:

  • If, when the assessment was created, the course designer created the assessment with ‘Show results’ set to Immediately, then the instructor will be notified when each student submits the assessment and the results may be viewed.
  • If, when the assessment was created, the course designer created the assessment with ‘Show results’ set to After Final Grades Submitted, then the instructor will not be able to view the results until final grades for the section have been submitted.
  • If, when the assessment was created, the course designer created the assessment with ‘Show results’ set to Never, then the instructor will not be able to view the results. This is helpful for student course evaluations which are meant to go to other staff but not the instructor. The assessment view will also be blank for this setting.

Viewing Immediate Results

The instructor may also view individual student responses by clicking Student Attempts View. This view allows the instructor to scroll through the students who completed the assessment and view their responses.

The instructor will see the student’s name:

The number of points each activity is worth and the time the student submitted the assessment:

And the student’s responses:

Correct answers are displayed in GREEN. Incorrect responses are displayed in RED.

Instructors can also scroll through the students and view individual responses by clicking the arrow on the student grading box.
